A vintage pair of warp Ikat Sumba Hinggi or man¬ís shoulder cloths decorated with depictions of roosters (animals of ritual sacrifice), skull trees (references to the headhunting practices of the Sumba people. A stylized depiction of a skull tree often functioned as a family crest) and rampant lions. The latter are inspired by the Dutch coat of arms. (230×67 cm.) Another pair of shoulder cloths with depictions of roosters and prawns (symbol of rejuvenation). (230×110 cm.) One single Ikat textile with depictions of birds, fish and skull trees. (210×104 cm.) The colour and motif both indicate the status of the wearer. In the past only the nobility had the
