Vitra
The Swiss furniture factory Vitra is internationally known for its designer furniture, often made by well-known and upcoming designers. Vitra is founded in 1950 as a decoration company for retail spaces and expanded soon with furniture for households. In 1957 Vitra starts producing the Herman Miller Collection under license for the European market, this is mainly design furniture designed by
Charles and Ray Eames and
George Nelson. In 1967 Vitra comes out with a real design classic, it releases the Panton Chair by
Verner Panton, a plastic chair without legs. In the following years, Vitra works together with well-known designers such as
Ron Arad, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec,
Hella Jongerius, Carsten Höller, Hans Coray and Maarten van Severen. The designers are given a high degree of freedom from Vitra, which guarantees that something unique is created. At art and design auctions you will occasionally come across works by Vitra like a nice Charles and Ray Eames chair, a set of coat hooks by Hella Jongerius or a beautiful Panton chair.
